I actually spent some of my hard-earned cash to watch High School Musical 3: Senior Year last Sunday. It was okay, I suppose. The plot was rather teen-flick generic, but it had a lot of energy and atmosphere. The songs were better than HSM2. The ticket+snacks meant I was broke for the rest of the week. : D I bought a large fruit tart for me and YY to eat during lunch on Friday, though. Maybe every Friday I will buy a cake haha.

I’ve eaten a lot today. I had a roast dinner for lunch. Then my sister called me to go to eat Japanese food, so I had that. I had this really nice okayu. Okayu is basically this sort of rice porridge, called congee. We have in China as well, but okayu is a lot thicker than the Chinese variant. I can never get fed up of Japanese food. My parents went to a Buddhist festival earlier, so they brought me back noodles, which I’m devouring now. I’m going to wake up obese.

Today was London Film Festival NUMBER 2 VER.~ I saw a Korean film called Night and Day. It was okay. It’s about some man on the run from the Korean police because he smoked some marijuana, so he goes to Paris. I didn’t really like the direction. The camera kept zooming in and out, usually to focus on something that had no relevance to the plot whatsoever. The camera kept panning as well, which was just really disorientating. There were a few scenes that were meant to be his dreams, but you couldn’t tell until it cut back to reality. There was a romance sub-plot to the film which lacked any sort of chemistry.

I want to see another Korean film at the London Korean Film Festival called Milky Way Liberation Front, which is a film about indie filmmaking. It looks really interesting, but I just don’t have the time to see it. D:

I went to the London Film Festival on Friday. It was…interesting. I went to some educational talk with this San Francisco director called Nathaniel Dorsky (I hadn’t heard of him ‘til I went). He makes experimental art films. Wikipedia describes him as a “Buddhist film-maker.” I don’t really know what to think of his work. Half the time I think it’s pretentious art films. Half the time I think it’s beautiful and thought-provoking. We watched two of his short films. The first one was called Sarabande (I think it’s called this; I don’t have the sheet handy). I should mention that all his films were silent. I thought that there was a backing track of wind noises, but that turned out to be the air conditioning. All it really was is long shots of nature and vague objects (like close-up of moving cars and reflections). I didn’t really connect with what was being shown to me. The second film was Winter. It was about the winter season in San Francisco, where it’s the rainy season. I felt I could connect to this film more, as it was more….grounded. After the showing, I ended up getting lunch with Annie, who was also on the trip where I demonstrated my taxi driver directional skills. I know London too well haha.

I have a lot of work of work to be getting on with during the half-term, but instead, it looks like I’ll be going out loads. Maybe I should use my time well. XD

The trip to Parliament was so lol. For one of our tasks, we had to walk around Parliament Square and look at the statues and buildings, so we could fill in this sheet. Well, we started to do it but it was raining, so we all stopped. We ended up at the arcade, playing on the bumper cars. It was so awesome. Parliament was good, too. It’s really interesting inside. Although, I got the feeling that I’ve been there before. I’m not sure if I have, though.

Two of my language classes that I signed up to started. Mandarin is nice. It’s fairly easy for me, as I can read the characters. Pronouncing is so-so, I suppose. I’m not sure if my pronunciation is good, but I suppose once I get used to the tones, I’ll be more comfortable. I mean, I do speak a language that has 9 tones. XD Japanese is great. It’s really fun. It’s harder than Mandarin, as I’m not used to the grammar. I mean, I accidentally said that I was called called Jennie and was English.

Wonder Girls released their new song, called Nobody. I think I prefer the teaser version of the song, but the dance version is nice too. I really like the music video. Although, the toilet humour is a little…weird. They’re really pretty in it.

Kumi Koda’s TABOO is so awesome. I would link to a video, if Avex weren’t stamping out its existence on the Internet. She’s such a slut in it, though. XD I mean, she gets licked in places that I didn’t even know existed in parts of it. I wonder what the average Japanese think of the video. Men are probably vigorously masturbating to it.

Upper sixth, I have arrived! So college has finally started again. Strangely, I was looking forward to it. Although I did do a lot during the summer holidays, I just was a bit bored throughout most of it. There’s only so many times I can go out with friends. I went into London a lot. I’m not even sure why. I’m due to go there on Wednesday haha. I’ll talk about that trip…soon? Anyway, my classes are good. I just have a lot of work to do, especially in Travel. I would talk about it more, but it makes me feel all “oh crap” every time I think about it in detail.

Newquay was strangely quite fun. I love beaches on a rainy day. It looks so peaceful when there aren’t masses of people around. We went to Newquay Zoo, which was nice. It’s smaller than some of the other zoos I’ve been to, but it has a nice selection of animals. I never knew otters could be so cute. We explored a few caves that I didn’t find very creepy at all. My friends kept screaming their heads off, though.

I’m going to Newquay tomorrow for a weekend tomorrow. I’m not sure what we’ll be doing, but I hope it doesn’t consist of sitting around on a beach all day. If I wanted to do that, I’d have paid £12.50 to go to Brighton for the day instead. I looked at the forecast, and it said that it would rain on Sunday and Monday. I’d like to go to the Eden Project, but it’s fairly far away. I’ll probably walk there from Par station. It’s about an hour from Newquay on the train, and the walk is 3 miles. I’ll have to bring my comfortable shoes.

On Wednesday, I met up with Joe again. Shaun couldn’t come. I also met Joe’s friend Freddy who came from Norway. It was an awesome day. All we really did was walk around, but I showed them a few sights, and we walked most of the South Bank. I took them to Yo! Sushi (the novelty that is conveyer belt sushi). Joe wanted to try it out. Freddy had never tried sushi before, so he wanted to try it as well. He didn’t like it. D: I would have ordered more, but I didn’t really have a lot of money.

The KCC are holding Korean language sessions again, so I’m going to try sign up for them while I’m in Newquay. The whole process confuses me, but wish me luck~~ If I take them, I’ll be doing 4 language courses haha.

I attended a Korean language lecture at the Korean Cultural Centre today. It was about Korean honorifics and their usage in Korea. It was really interesting to see how the Korean society structure is so complex, and also how complicated it all is. The lecturer even said many Koreans don’t know how, or get wrong, honorifics which makes me feel a lot better, if and when I learn the language. It’s amusing how Koreans try so hard not to call each other by their names, but will strive to call them using a honorific instead. In English, we only really have one word for “you” which is…”you”. XD We did have both thou and you, thou being used for someone you’re close to, but that has fallen out of context. In Korean, there are many ways on saying “you”, depending on your age, gender or your position in society. Likewise in Vietamese, there are 7 ways to say “you”. In Chinese, we have 2 ways. Well, 3, if you count 爾, which I have never been seen used, apart from in words such as 威爾斯 and 北愛爾蘭, which actually are the names for Wales and Northern Ireland in Chinese. Even then, I don’t really think you can class them as true honorifics.

I started filling in my UCAS application and writing my personal statement. I never knew that it would so hard to write. So many things to consider and add, yet I only have a small space to write. I’m definitely going to put in that I attended the Korean lecture though. I think attending a lecture at 6:30pm on a Tuesday evening is a good way to convey that I really want to study Korean.

I’ve been reading a lot of books lately. Currently, I’m reading Wrong About Japan by Peter Carey. The book was written after his and his son’s trip to Japan sometime in 2002, I believe. I’m finding it an enjoyable read, but the book is mainly based around manga and anime, which I don’t really have that much of an interest. Still, it’s interesting reading a gaijin (外人) view on Japan. I read another travel book, called Meeting Mr Kim: or How I Went to Korea and Learned To Love Kimchi by Jennifer Barclay. I really enjoyed the book. It’s about a woman who accompanies her boyfriend to Korea for 3 months and travels around Korea in search for the soul of Seoul. Her stories about meeting a wide range of friendly Korean people makes me want to visit. Hopefully I can, if I read Korean Studies at university.
