Yesterday was awesome. I and some of my friends organised a dinner party, where each person prepared one of the courses. I made the main course, which was paella. I was worried that it would go horribly wrong, as I made a little tester on Wednesday and it was pretty horrible. This time I added a few herbs and a few more ingredients, so I could impart a little more flavour into the dish, and just so it was filling. It turned out really great. There was hardly any left, as the family members who weren’t taking part in the dinner had some too. The starters was soup and croutons, which was really nice. We made the croutons ourselves with a little oregano and cheese. Danielle made stuffed peppers which was nice too.
College is nearly over. Yay!

I went to my first university Open Day on Saturday. It was at Oxford. No, it’s not the prestigious Oxford University, but it’s less glamorous brother Oxford Brookes University. It was okay. I went to check out the Japanese Studies and Politics courses. I went to both taster sessions. It was rather interesting. In Japanese, we just learnt really basic words like “kantan” and “jouzu”, and how to use them in context. In Politics, we had a little debate about the “crisis of democracy”, something I didn’t take part in. I don’t really want to do Japanese as my major, so I’ll probably put Oxford Brookes as one of my back-up choices.
In front of me, I have an application form for Mandarin lessons. I’m pretty sure I want to take them, but I’d also like to take another language. Anyone have any ideas what languages I should consider? The options are:
- Italian
- Spanish
- Turkish
- Arabic
- Greek
- Portuguese
- Russian
- Polish
Oh, and I’m also going to take Japanese lessons. I’m taking a bit of a risk because I’m not even sure if I’ll have enough time on my hands, but I think I should be okay. The courses aren’t particularly complex, or very intensive.

I finally finished all my exams today (well, yesterday). It was a great feeling. I’ve done so much work that it’s a great relief to get the bulk of it done. Now all I have to do is wait till August to see if all that work was worth it (that’s when the grades come out). I had Travel as my last exam. It wasn’t too hard, I found. Obviously, saying that meant that I did pretty rubbish on it. If it is rubbish, I’ll re-take it next year. I’m dropping Geography, as I just find the subject really boring now. I used to really enjoy it. The teachers I had at GCSE were awesome. Now we have two boring teachers teaching a boring subject. What fun.
On Saturday, I saw Sex and the City: The Movie. I’ve seen the series enough to realise what the whole premise of the franchise is. I found it to be okay. It wasn’t as frank as the series. Well, the movie was frank, but it didn’t really go into depth like the series. I suppose because they can spread the issues they deal with between numerous episodes, while the movie only has 2 hours to tell its part of the story. There’s probably also the influence of Hollywood; they’re only interested in making money, so they try to appeal to everyone, even though the movie already had an audience. The whole movie did feel like a really extended episode. And they kind of spent the first half an hour introducing the characters, probably for the benefit of people who have no knowledge of the series. I did love the fashion though. Some of the wedding dresses Carrie wore were beautiful. If I was a woman, I would want to get married in one of them.
